The Florida Health Care Innovation Council facilitates public discussions about innovative technologies, workforce pathways, and service delivery models that improve health care quality, reduce costs, and increase accessibility across the state.
Through quarterly public meetings held throughout Florida, innovators, developers, and implementers present solutions designed to address real-time challenges in Florida’s health care system. The Council evaluates these solutions based on their potential to create measurable, sustainable improvements that can be replicated across communities.

The Council welcomes presentations from innovators across Florida who are developing or implementing solutions that transform health care delivery. Present your innovation at an upcoming Council meeting to share your work with health care leaders, policymakers, and fellow innovators.
Solutions are evaluated based on their ability to:

Innovation Categories
The Council focuses on four key areas in which innovation can drive meaningful improvements in Florida’s health care system. Below are the key areas and a few examples in each category.

- Workforce Pathways: Approaches to cultivate interest and growth in the workforce, including increasing the number of providers.
- Workforce Efficiency: Technologies, training, and techniques to improve effectiveness and reduce burdens on health care professionals.
- Educational Pathways: Programs connecting students with employers and resulting in cost-efficient, timely degrees or credentials.
- Technology Support: Use of technology to reduce burden on workforce during decision-making processes while leaving final decisions to practitioners.

- Early Detection: Remote communication devices and diagnostic tools engineered for early detection and patient engagement.
- At-Home Care: At-home patient monitoring devices, measures, and advanced at-home health care.

Thomas J. Sabatino, Jr
Mr. Sabatino has spent his career in a number of Fortune 500 companies. He was most recently Executive Vice President and General Counsel of Rite-Aid. Prior to that he was Executive Vice President and General Counsel of Tenneco, Inc after being Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer of Aetna, Inc. Mr. Sabatino joined Aetna from Hertz Global Holdings, Inc., where he served as Senior Executive Vice President, Chief Administrative Officer, and General Counsel. He has also been the chief legal officer and general counsel of Walgreens, United Airlines, Schering- Plough, Baxter International and American Medical Holdings.
He currently serves as a member of the board of Humane World for Animals and prior Co-chair, Chair Emeritus of the International Institute for Conflict Prevention and Resolution and a member of the Board of Overseers of the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School. He is a member of the Florida Health Care Innovation Counsel. Mr. Sabatino earned his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania and his undergraduate degree from Wesleyan University in Connecticut.
